We've had a lot of snow this winter. But the last few days have been sunny, warm, and like heaven. Perfect weather for walks. On Sunday as we were driving to church we passed a golden eagle (!!!!!) near the side of the road, about a 1/2 mile from our house, feeding on something. It was so gloriously beautiful and enormous. We marveled at it's feathered legs and massive wingspan (when it took off we estimated about 5-6 feet across). Later we walked down to the site because the kids (mostly Asher...he was so excited he practically ran the whole way) wanted to see what was being eaten (it was two pheasants) and collect some feathers. I think Asher was really hoping that the eagle had dropped one of it's feathers (even though they are illegal to take, apparently) but he was happy with a few good pheasant specimens.
This afternoon we hiked out again. This time we did a loop that went through what we call "The High Lane". The weather has been so beautiful that we've lost a lot of snow on the roads but in the lane we were still walking on white. We are always, always accompanied by a few neighborhood dogs who we love. Today, Grizz and Tally were our companions.

I always feel so honored to see wildlife- and how blessed you were to see that eagle! My nature boy would've been as excited as Asher!
You're also lucky to have such snow. We've been very disappointed this winter (and last) with the tiny amounts of snow. Winter feels like such a let-down when you have just frigid temps and a slight snow dusting.
