"Oh What a Beautiful Day"
We had such a great day today. Spring is arriving little by little here. We were able to be outside without coats today and spent most of our day in the backyard. Glorious!
After doing some formal learning this morning we trooped outside in our garden boots with a collection of plasic dinos and began work on "Dinosaur Land"...digging a place in the dirt with a pond (buried plastic bowl) and mountains, trees and caves. This promises to be an ongoing project for the kids and is a fabulous tie-in to their (especially John's) absolute obsession with dinosaurs. Photos to come....
After getting the kids inspired to work on Dino Land I got to do some yardwork. Oh, the absolute joy of raking for the first time after winter, the sun hitting my head, not-too-cool, not-too-hot. Then we turned over a big piece of wood that we use as a step over a new garden area and the kids went wild over the creatures we found: worms, slugs, earwigs, a cricket.
Some bike riding. Some scootering. John very proud for helping me organize all the balls scattered around our yard. Then a friend came over to play and the three of them basically spent the entire afternoon going back and forth between playing "DinoLand" and pretending they were beavers building a dam with all the branches I'd clipped off our old lilac tree.
A great day full of learning and play and play and play.

Your day sounds lovely and your children sound so happy. We worked outside a little bit each day last week. This week is even more beautiful but proving to be too busy for extended ourdoor fun.
I can't wait to turn over some of the leaves in our garden and search for earthworms. I've been reading worm books to my dd for the past few weeks in anticipation of finding worms. I hope she responds as delightfully as your children did to the upturned rock.
