Silence Descends
The heat of afternoon,
Sticky faces,
snow-cone spills,
Knees bruised and
clothes full
Of stains from the
day’s fun.
Then, as if called to
prayer, they come
And find their own
places of rest.
They begin their
quiet, paged journeys.
The heat cools and
the joy-noises fade.
Silence descends and
Hovers through the
house.
Like a breeze from
the ocean come
to blow the fog away.
The spaces within my
heart open to
life as a kind of
perfection.
